A Modest Proposal - Jonathan Swift Rarely have i read a text as smart as this one. No, i am not condoning cannibalism.
I am an admirer for everything related to sarcasm and irony and this lampoon is to me what heroin is to a drug addict.

Yes, the most important part of this book is the proposition : the poor people shall sell their one year old babies to the wealthier population who would be delighted to buy such a nutritious meat.

This proposition itself is something that gives a lot to think about.

But there is more to that in this essay. We can also find a presentation of the misery (human and economical) in which Ireland was drowning in the 18th century, a critic of Ireland's neighbor - England, a critic of the riches, and satirically Swift even list all the propositions that could actually help his country.
