I expected this story to be in the same dimension as "Marley and me" but it wasn't.
The main character of the book is Henry Molise, married, 4 young adult children. In his life enters a depraved dog (that is easy to love and hate at the same time) which wanders around as the offspring leave the house to live their own life.
It's the story of this man, with his broken ambitions, fallen from his fantasized throne who wants to love this insignificant dog more than his family, naively believing that happiness would come if relieved from his children and wife.
A funny, honest, disillusioned story with realistic and down to earth characters filled with personal aims. A nice read overall.
